Ample parts designed in consideration of children's growth and behavior
A large number of parts have been designed with consideration of children's growth and behavior. A combination of parts permits smooth transition from the prosthetic feet for babies, young children, and children to those for adults.

Two types of prosthetic feet can cope with a walk from of an infant or child.
Two types of prosthetic feet have been designed for infants and children to cope with a walk from specific to children depending on their ages.

Sufficient adjustability to cope with the rapid growth of children
This system has been designed for easier adjustment of its length and alignment so that it can quickly handle both the increasing physical activity and changing body shape of children who are growing day by day.

Designed to provide excellent waterproofness and dust resistance
Many opportunities of children to lay a hand on sand and water as well as waste motion tend to cause damage to the system. This is particularly true when children's play patterns are considered. For solution to this problem, we are developing a cover to provide excellent waterproofness and dust resistance.

Knee Joints for Children

Either a single axis knee joint or single axis manual locking knee joint can be chosen from among the two types of knee joints. The bearing width is 36 mm for a single axis manual locking knee joint, and 38 mm for a single axis knee, each being wide enough to provide excellent durability. The maximum flexion angle is 160 degrees or more, which is large enough to fit for children's lifestyle.

  • Single Axis Knee Joint
    The joint is of a simple structure using the extension aid spring for swing phase control, and therefore being suitable for infantile ambulation. The extension auxiliary spring can be easily adjusted with the bottom screw on the knee joint.
  • Single Axis Manual Locking Knee Joint
    This can be unlocked by the lever, which is simple to operate. Extension leads to automatic fixation.

Connectors for Children

An adjustment range of ツア7 degrees permits wide adjustments for alignment equivalent to those for adults.

Adjustments of a tilt or height of the socket can be made with three supports of the socket holder. The C0200 can be chosen from among three parts of:
1.Socket Plug C0300
2.Socket Jack C0350
3.VIP Attachment

Foot Prostheses

There are two types of feet: the one is VIP designed to coordinate with a walk from specific to children, and the other to be fitted for a transitional phase from children's gait to that of adults.

  • VIP (Vertical Inner Plate)
    The feet for VIP use a low-profile structure so that they can extensively cope with children with short lower limbs. The keel structure has been designed in such a way that it has a large curvature radius of the plantar part with a narrow width. This makes it possible to absorb an impact when a heel contact is made as well as permitting smooth weight shift all the time during the stance phase. The part where the keel socket holder is attached is provided with an elongate hole (6-10 mm) so that adjustments can be made in the M-L direction.
  • JJ (Juvenile J-Foot)
    The J-type carbon keel used in the J-Foot has been designed for children so that it will provide rollover with smooth natural gait (18-20 cm keel hardness comes in one version, and 21 cm keel hardness comes in two versions).

The Concept

縺填p until this point, there had been no development on children's leg prostheses done in Japan. However, thinking about the effect that the growth process has on a child, it seemed that children's prostheses ought to be taken even more seriously than those for adults.
Traditionally, it's been the case that people had to either use foreign products or hand-made products, resulting in difficulties that include costs and maintenance as well as accommodating emergency demand.
Therefore, we at Imasen Engineering Corporation obtained a subsidy from the Association for Technical Aids to take our technical expertise gained through developing adult prostheses, and on the basis of that, to make children's prostheses not by merely shrinking the adult versions, but by developing a specialized children's prosthesis system that would take into account the motion patterns of children.
From the crawling and toddling of a one-year-old up to early elementary school ages, we've developed a wide assortment of parts that accommodate the rapid growth of children, giving them a walk that is just as mobile and comfortable as that of any normal child.
